For Christmas 2011, It's Nerf Stampede Or Nothing

Everyone already knows it’s every 8-year old boy’s dream to get the Nerf Stampede ECS-50 for Christmas. As someone who has shot a real gun on the firing range, what amazes me the most about this Nerf gun is how realistic it is. I’m not going to lie if I was still 8 and I got the Nerf Stampede ECS-50 for Christmas I would be in heaven. It's freaking amazing. Although I now practice my gun skills in Halo, I wouldn’t mind getting one anyway. No matter what their age, any self-respecting guy would want one. Don’t get me wrong it still looks and feels like a toy which is a good thing. It’s still made out of yellow plastic and the foam bullets don’t hurt, but the mechanics of this gun feel just right. Nerf Stampede Feels Amazing

Running around with the Nerf Stampede ECS-50 feels like you’re a commando in the army or living out your favorite video game in real life. The front grip converts to a bipod and makes you feel like you’re holding an M-4 rifle. Release the clip and squeeze the trigger, and the gun unloads the clips at a rate of about 3 per second. According to Nerf, this is the first fully automatic clip system blaster to date. Squeezing the trigger is incredibly satisfying. Clips on average travel about 30 feet but with the right conditions and skill you can shoot as far as 50 feet. The fun lasts awhile too. Nothing beats the feeling of emptying a clip and quickly reloading the next clip. You get 3 clips that hold 18 bullets each plus you get a 6 round. In total, the package comes with 60 darts. Oh and the detachable shield is awesome on the battlefield. You can actually look through the cross-hatched window to aim more precisely. Get the right vantage point and you’ll be sniping in no time. The Nerf Stampede is tons of fun. The slogan for nerf couldn’t be truer. This Christmas for young boys “It’s Nerf Stampede or Nothing.”

The first thing that surprised me was how big it is. The box is absolutely huge. However, the gun sports the nicest packaging ever for a toy. It's very easy to remove and more toys should use similar packaging.From the pictures it is easy to misjudge the size of this toy. It's absolutely massive. It's as large as a real rifle. The detailing on the gun looks amazing for a toy. It's colorful and adorned with cool stickers. Everything feels high quality. It's very sleek.

The Nerf Stampede Is Not Without Its Flaws

Although the Nerf Stampede ECS-50 is the best nerf gun to date, all is not perfect.The biggest complaint is that the gun weighs alot. It requires 6 D batteries which are not included in the package. With the batteries, the gun weighs about 8 pounds. Now you don't have to be Rambo to hold it but this is not a toy for little kids. In fact, I wouldn't recommend getting this nerf gun for anyone under 8. Because the gun uses batteries, you will have to replace them every once in awhile. Like all nerf guns, it's not very accurate. It's easy to hit a target from close range but lining up a shot that is far away is difficult. This may actually have to do with the actual physics of the foam dart, but there is room for improvement.

Because the toy looks very close to the real thing, it is quiet educational. Kids who are curious about how the mechanics of a gun work can learn proper gun safety. Shooting a gun requires tremedous attention to detail. With this toy gun, parents can teach kids how to handle a gun properly. Shooting a gun is not as easy as it looks in the movies. Personally, I don't think the toy in any shape or form glorifies violence. It's a toy. It's about fun.
